Why Should we Focus on Overall Development of Child
Like it or not, child character-building is becoming an increasingly important issue for schools. Recently an article wrote in for the Guardian recently produced a lively response online. The schools of all kinds have become too much like exam factories, concentrating their complete energies on securing passes at A to C at GCSE level or securing higher percentage marks and have given too little attention to the overall development of the child and their character (the scramble for results has also been at the cost of genuine learning and creative teaching). The government should embrace character-building and all-round education not as an alternative to academic attainment but as an essential adjunct of it. The opportunities open to those of independent education for wider enrichment should be available to all, regardless of school. The best state schools are already doing much to develop character.
Child development entails the biological, psychological and emotional changes that occur in human beings between birth and the end of adolescence, as the individual progresses from dependency to increasing autonomy.
Schools of Gurgaon are working on a conducive, stress-free atmosphere that is ensured for the students with an emphasis on spiritual and moral training, along with providing personalized attention, regular assignments and proper guidance to its students to ensure their holistic development.
The school should adopt first-hand learning practices at preschool, middle school and senior school. Tools like mind mapping, guided visualisation and select setting should be adopted to enable the students for learning the concept very well. The school must emphasis on latest technological facilities through audio visual infrastructure, without sacrificing the traditional Indian moral and cultural values. The assessment tools used under the system motivate students to further improve upon the learning in the classroom. The school's exceptional performance in both Class X and Class XII Board examinations are reflected as the hard work that the students, management and the staff puts in. But emphasizing only on studies leads only to the academic enhancement, I would like ask what about enhancement in other areas of a child?
The Indian philosopher Patanjali said†When you are inspired by some great purpose all your thoughts break their bonds: your mind transcends limitations and dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive and you discover your true selfâ€. Our ancient system of education was based on imparting moral and ethical values which in turn acted as powerful tools in transforming the personality of individuals in accordance with patterns approved by the society. The same holds true, even today with the help of value education.
As the globalization is increasing rapidly involving all the aspects of life, so every institution/school is trying to make the students globally perfect so that they can outstrip others of their age and caliber. Tiny kids are taught the use of computers at an early stage, i.e., pre-primary level.
In short – “A home away from home†is an apt synonym used for any institution/school that creates an overall developed child through vigorous exercises and efforts.
